The
C Bore Lead is a melody pan with 29 notes, arranged in 4ths and
5ths, the same as the C lead, but has a deeper face bored with
holes separating the notes and a 9" skirt. This pan is preferred
by solo pan players and steelbands who wish the Lead to have more
resonance. The player has volume without necessarily adding microphones
or more instruments. The resonance and volume increase the sound
impact of a full steelband making it appear to have more lead
instruments. Marshall and Slater have perfected the construction
and tuning techniques on this instrument so that it will sustain
its tuning and tonal quality, with the added increase in Marshall's
characteristic "brightness".
